BIRD PLANTER Q & A
I found a bird egg what should i do?
There are fake flower planters on my porch and there was a nest that i discovered. Last night i went to look and see if there was any eggs. The mom was laying her eggs, and she freaked out when i got close and flew off. She laid one of her eggs and never came back. I want to save the egg. what should i do?
You should keep the egg in the nest and it will have minimal chances of survival. It is sad to say, but the egg already has a slim chance of survival. If it is a robin, then you should place it in the nest, because robins have great chances of survival as a young bird. If the mother returns or you feel that you must help the young bird, follow these steps…
1. recover a box where the young egg can take refuge.
2. gather blankets and place the box near light. ( this will mock the mothers incubation process)
3. place the egg in the blankets. but do not cover the egg fully and make sure the egg can be seen.
4. wait till tomorow.
5. check on the egg and let it sit.
6. if the egg is not hatched in a matter of three days, or cracks and cooks, dispose of the egg.
I hope this is good advice and I hope you can save the egg. Do not hold the egg too tight or drop it!! remember…… The egg is VERY delicate!!
Bye and happy birding!!!
